Bactericidal Action of Histone
The arginine-rich fraction of calf thymus histone (histone B) exerts bactericidal activity on various coliform bacilli and micrococci under certain conditions in vitro. Final concentrations of less than 1 microg. histone per ml. kill susceptible microbes without detectable morphological alteration or lysis. Among the microorganisms highly susceptible to histone are Escherichia, Salmonella, Shig...
متن کاملMode of bactericidal action of silver zeolite and its comparison with that of silver nitrate.
The properties of the bactericidal action of silver zeolite as affected by inorganic salts and ion chelators were similar to those of silver nitrate. The results suggest that the contact of the bacterial cell with silver zeolite, the consequent transfer of silver ion to the cell, and the generation of reactive oxygen species in the cell are involved in the bactericidal activity of silver zeolite.
متن کاملDelayed bactericidal response of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to bedaquiline involves remodelling of bacterial metabolism
Bedaquiline (BDQ), an ATP synthase inhibitor, is the first drug to be approved for treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in decades. Though BDQ has shown excellent efficacy in clinical trials, its early bactericidal activity during the first week of chemotherapy is minimal. Here, using microfluidic devices and time-lapse microscopy of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, we confirm the absence o...
متن کاملBactericidal mode of titanium dioxide photocatalysis
When exposed to near-UV light, titanium dioxide (TiO2) exhibits a strong bactericidal activity. However, the killing mechanism(s) underlying the TiO2 photocatalytic reaction is not yet well understood. The aim of the present study is to investigate the cellular damage sites and their contribution to cell death. A sensitive approach using o-nitrophenol β-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG) as the probe a...
